Garagem is the place we send everyone after a day at Ferradura. It sits in a quiet corner of the neighbourhood. The food cooks over a wood fire and you serve yourself. Feijoada, fresh sides, and the best caipirinhas in Brazil, in our honest opinion. Simple, affordable and full of soul. It opens Friday to Sunday for lunch and takes no reservations. The pots come off the fire late in the afternoon, so go early.

Balthazar Bakery brings a touch of European charm to the streets of Búzios. Known for its fresh, handcrafted bread, buttery croissants, and rich coffee, this cozy spot is perfect for a relaxed breakfast or an afternoon pick-me-up. Located near Ferradura Beach, along Avenida José Bento Ribeiro Dantas, it's a delight for those who appreciate quality baked goods and a warm, welcoming atmosphere.

Belli Belli sits right on the water at Porto da Barra, the quieter, more polished corner of Búzios. The kitchen is Italian at heart: fresh pasta, and seafood from the coast. The setting does the rest, with tables by the sea and the sunset behind the boats. Book a table for the evening and make a night of it. This is where we go when the occasion calls for something a little more special.

Don Juan is the go-to spot on Rua das Pedras for a perfectly cooked steak. It was the first Argentine grill in Búzios, and it still feels like it: tender cuts, a chimichurri you will ask for more of, and a glass of Malbec to go with them. The room is cozy and the tables spill onto the stones. Come from 5 pm, when the happy hour runs, and stay for dinner.

If you want to try real Brazilian dishes, this is your spot. Buzin is a buffet in the centre of town, a few steps from Rua das Pedras, where you build your own plate: fresh seafood, feijoada, moqueca, the grill, and a Japanese counter too. You pay by weight, so a light lunch and a big dinner each cost what they should. Casual and friendly, open every day from noon to midnight, and the easiest place in town to feed a family with different tastes.

A staple in Búzios and beyond, Chez Michou is an iconic Brazilian chain known for its vibrant atmosphere and delicious crepes with a local twist. Offering sweet and savory options, paired with refreshing drinks, this spot has become a go-to destination for casual dining and socializing. It is on Rua das Pedras. The perfect place for a Brazilian take on the French classic, in the middle of the action.

Bar dos Pescadores is a beachfront seafood house with a lovely view. It also has easy parking, which in Búzios counts for a lot. Fish bites to start, an octopus rice that feeds three, and a moqueca guests describe as the best they have had. Friendly service, sea breeze, no fuss. Open every day for lunch and dinner. Ideal for a long, lazy lunch on a day you are not chasing the beaches.
